False Malware Alerts

Watch out for website re-directions to false Malware alerts

We have seen an increase in users notifying us that their computers are alerting them of malware and inappropriate content, and functionality being "hijacked".

Luckily, these situations have mostly been caused by a web browser redirection when users click on a link from search engine results, and not an actual virus or malware.

To help prevent this from happening, please make sure that the link information shows the appropriate corresponding website address before proceeding to websites presented by search engines or emails.  You can verify this by hovering over the link and viewing the link address that appears in the bottom left corner of your web browser.

If this does happen to your computer, there are a few simple things that you can do to troubleshoot this.

  1. Click Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up the Task Manager, then select the web browser program and hit the "End Task" button.

  2. If you can remember the link that was selected that took you to the re-direct, we can help submit that notification to the web browser host.

  3. Be sure to run a scan with your anti-virus program (Vipre if centrally managed by Zypes) to verify that your system is clean.

Please contact us right away if you have any questions or if this happens to you!
